Bowie Update

So maybe y'all are tired of reading about sick kitties. I are tired of writing bout em. I just want my kitty pals to be healthy, but we is havin terrible luck lately. Today wuz a tuff day for Bowie. Last nite we thought he wuz doing good, the vet we had talked to seemed optimistic and said he'd be good to go tomorrow. But this morning wuz a different story. His blood pressure had skyrocketed overnight and he wuz blind (again). The vet said he wuz in severe distress and that we needed to consider putting him down. When da mommas (all 3 of them) got there, they visited wif Bowie. He wuz blind, but he wuz calm wif them and not in distress. They talked about taking him to a neurologist but given what the emergency vets had done, nobody seemed to think a neurologist wuz a good opshun - if he has a brain tumor or something, there is not much that can be done. And putting him through a battery of tests (MRIs and CT scans) would just stress him out. They ran tests on his blood and urine - all normal. He got some activated charcoal just in case he wuz poisoned - but we have no clue how since we've checked everything. The mommas just decided to take him home and see how he does. He has spent most of the day resting. His momma spoon-fed him a whole can of food (not all at once, MOL) and he's used the kitty box. He's still blind, but he is hearing and aware and responsive. Tonite, he seemed a lil better since he wuz walking steady and wanted to visit Travis.

We're all worried, we just want our kitties to be better.

We know some pups don't like kitties, but we do. They're our pals.

Da mommas are giving Bowie a fighting chance. He's still on his blood pressure meds and we're making shure he gets food and liquid. And of course, lotsa luv. The vets are all stumped as to what happened - if it wuz a head trauma from a fall (Bowie does like to climb), something toxic, a clot, a stroke, a brain bleed - no one seems to have any ideas. We have another idea - if you remember, back in early April, da kitties were all sick. Bowie wuz very sick. The mommas thought it could be da COVID since it seemed like some people in this house had it right before. And we're wondering if this could be one of those "long-haul" COVID symptoms - there's no way to know of course, but we know some people with COVID throw clots. But for right now, Bowie is just enjoying a lot of love.

  2. This is not at all what you or anyone else had been expecting...horrible Viral side effects. Yes I hear about them a lot, and they linger on...what an evil virus and causing you so much grief and stress.
I would not at all be surprised if indeed that is what the troubles are from...Poor little Bowie, and SO young, even. Sigh....sob...

He has our POTP and pawyers and love, too!

Can you spare a wee bit of them for our Pawppy, who has his spinal fusion surgery on Nov 4,and also for Pipo, who is very poorly...VERY poorly...sob...

  6. This is so scary! Our mom doesn't trust ER vets as they have been wrong so many times. Go with your gut feelings and if you think a neurologist is right, go to one or check with your regular vet for a better opinion. ER vets are wonderful, but they have been wrong on diagnosing things almost every time Mom has been to one with dogs and cats. Poor guy, we feel terrible for him.

    1. Yeah, we just thought he'd do best at home so we took him home. We're planning on taking him to the normal vet next week.
